SPAC WatchCurrent SPAC Watch initiativenews : assessing progress : partners : research The SPAC Watch initiative is currently assessing the progress of national governments in incorporating SPAC tools and principles in national policies and legislations as per their obligations under the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation. NEWSNATIONAL STRATEGIES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT - REPORT July. 2004: The International INstitute for Sustainable Development has released a report titled "National Strategies for Sustainable Development: Challenges, Approaches and Innovations in Strategic and Co-ordinated Action". The report studies 19 developed and developing countries and identifies key challenges faced by countries in relation to the strategic management aspects of national sustainable development strategies including leadership, planning, implementation, monitoring and review, co-ordination, and participation. This report will be a valuable resource for SPAC Watch's monitoring and assessment work. MARRAKECH + 2 Apr. 2004: The government of Costa Rica announced that the 2nd International Expert Meeting will be organized in Costa Rica in September 2005. This was announced at the side event titled "The Marrakech Process: Towards a 10 year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption and production" organized by the government of Sweden at the 12th Session of the Commission on Sustainable Development. SPAC Watch will aim to present its global report on progress to the participants at this meeting. NEWSLETTER RELEASED Apr 2004: ISF published "Getting the Goods: Civil society news and views on sustainable production and consumption" in April 2004 for circulation at the 12th session of the Commission for Sustainable Development (CSD 12) and beyond.
