Accountability

• The National Action Plan for Agenda 21 is directed, inter alia, toward changing consumption and production patterns. Specific issues that are addressed include the following:

  •  Disseminating and promoting cleaner production methods for the production process

  •  Reducing wastes and promoting recycling in the production process

  •  Establishment of environmentally-friendly production and consumption mechanism

  •  Promoting the use of clean fuel and mitigating sulfate content of fuel

  •  Promoting the use of recyclable energy

  •  Using environmentally friendly technologies for sustainable production

  •  Extension of clean energy using, Mitigating sulfur content of fuel

  •  Mitigating wasteful consumption patterns, promoting awareness of sustainable consumption

• The Environmental Policy Vision of Participatory Government ( http://eng.me.go.kr/user/policies/policies_view.html?table_name=me_new_policy&msel=b1&seq=3&filename=1_policy_01.html ) calls for the creation of a healthy living environment through precautionary policies.
• Also of relevance is Green Vision 21 ( http://eng.me.go.kr/user/policies/policies_view.html?table_name=me_new_policy&msel=b1&seq=2&filename=1_policy_02.html ), which aims at environmentally sound and sustainable development, environmentally sound consumption and business management.

• The ministry of the environment website ( http://eng.me.go.kr/user/index.html ) lists several SPAC related departments including EPR, eco labeling, resource recovery and reutilization

• "Fifty-three sustainable development indicators were developed in the areas of economy, society, environment, and policy as an objective measurement tool that will establish, enact, and confirm the results of developmental policies such as the National Action Plan. There are plans to further develop so that comparisons can be made with other countries through indexing."
